The group's principal activity is to market, produce and distribute bananas and other quality fresh produce like pineapples and avocados sold under chiquita brand. The activities are carried out through three segments: bananas, other fresh produce and other. The bananas segment produces and distributes bananas. The other fresh produce markets and distributes fresh fruits and vegetables. The other segment includes chiquita's new fresh cut fruit business, which was launched in Nov 2003 with a start-up plant outside of Chicago. As a result of the acquisition of atlanta ag, the sale of chiquita's vegetable canning business and the sale of a palm oil joint venture stake, the group determined its reportable segments were bananas, other fresh produce and other.
